Microsoft’s Ofﬁ ce Ready Program allows

OEM Ofﬁ ce product keys to unlock full

versions of Ofﬁ ce on computers with

Ofﬁ ce trial versions preinstalled. As part

of program, “multinational” computer

manufacturers, such as Acer and ASUS,

in addition to other system builders, load

a special 60-day trial version of Ofﬁ ce on

select computers (most are now loaded

this way), which allows the user to test the

product prior to purchase.

These trial versions can be unlocked

immediately after purchase or at a future

date. Users can unlock directly with

Microsoft, buy a full retail version of

Ofﬁ ce from a reseller, or can purchase an

OEM Ofﬁ ce Can Be Attached to Most System Sales

Savvy dealers help their customers save about 30%.

OEM product key from the reseller who

sold them the system, even if the dealer is

not in the OEM channel. Dealers can pur-

chase the OEM product keys from SED

for about 30% less than the equivalent

retail products.

“In many cases, dealers sell a computer to

a consumer or business who then in turn

buys Ofﬁ ce from their local big-box re-

tailer,” said Adrian Law, Microsoft Sales

Champion for SED “They are missing an

opportunity to help their customer save

money, not to mention losing out on a

sale.” Microsoft reports that 70% of users

purchase Ofﬁ ce within one month of buy-

ing a new PC. “The reason most dealers

miss out on this sale is because they don’t

ask for it,” Law stated.

Branded systems can be preinstalled with

a 60 trial of Ofﬁ ce Professional 2007 or

Ofﬁ ce Home and Student 2007. OEM

product keys will activate both of these

trials, with Basic, Small Business, and

Professional product keys available for

the Professional trial version. The Ofﬁ ce

Professional trial is loaded on all Asus

Notebooks (not the EeePC netbook), and

Acer Travelmate, Veriton and Extensa

notebooks and desktops. Acer Aspire

systems have the Home and Student trial

installed.
